An investigation is underway into the death of a 16-year-old boy who was apparently playing “Russian roulette” with three friends and a loaded firearm in a bar in Venecia de Osa, the tabloid daily, Diario Extra reported Thursday.

The unidentified teen reportedly shot himself through the right side of the head, according paramedics who responded to the scene.

Paramedics found the teen with massive blood loss from the head and weak vital signs, but still alive, a Red Cross paramedic told the newspaper. The teen was rushed to an area hospital but died some 10 minutes later.

One of the teen’s friends was able to flee the scene before police responded, while another friend who accompanied the deceased to the hospital was taken into custody.

The incident took place in the Bar Las Vegas. Authorities are investigating why the teens were permitted to be in the bar, and how they obtained the firearm.
