The Costa Rica Drug Institute (ICD in Spanish) will hold an auction to sell 21 luxury cars that belonged to to organized crime and were seized by the police.

The expectation is to be able to raise 280 million colones (close to $490 thousand ),“The idea is that we can collect some funds for the ICD and at the same time we get rid of unused vehicles that are currently taking up space, getting deteriorated due to lack of maintenance and creating additional storage expenses”, explained Olger Bogantes, subdirector of the ICD.

Among the vehicles that will be auctioned are a Mercedes Benz 4×4 valued in 33 million colones (around USD$58,000.00), a Porche Cayman with an approximate price of 16.5 million colones (close to USD$29,000.00), and a Chevrolet Camaro of around that same value. There are also other vehicles with values starting at 1.5 million colones ($2,700.00).

The last time the ICD held a car auction, it was able to triple the amount that had been established as a goal.
