Revelers in Costa Rica are counting down the days to the Palmares Festival, a cantonal celebration in the province of Alajuela that has become one of the hottest tickets in the busy January season of festivities. As usual, the iconic Cerveza Imperial is the main corporate sponsor of the Palmares Festival, and they recently released the official schedule of musical acts that will appear at their massive beer tent and main stage.

Thursday, January 16^th

After the traditional Palmares Tope (equestrian parade), the music will start courtesy of Los Ajenos and Los Rabanes from Panama. These two recently collaborated on the hit single “Ya No Te Lloro Mas” (I Don’t Cry For You Anymore).

Friday, January 17^th

Rock cover band Charlie XX-27 will take the stage.

Saturday, January 18^th

Cerveza Imperial is leaving this day a surprise for the purpose of building up intrigue in Costa Rica. All that has been reported thus far is that the artist (or artists) will be of international acclaim. Readers of the Costa Rica Star and insiders are welcome to speculate on who will appear in Palmares on this day.

Sunday, January 19^th

If you grew up in Limon a few decades ago, you will remember the infectious Soca rythms of Marfil. This band is still around and is ready to rock Palmares.

Thursday 23^rd and Friday 24^th

If you like reggae the way it is supposed to be play, with passion and devoted musicianship, you will love Fyah Red on Thursday, followed by Un Rojo Reggae Band and Ojo de Buey on Friday. These bands are well-regarded in the Costa Rican roots reggae scene, and they never disappoint when they take the stage.

Saturday, January 25^th

Caribbean rhythms will lean towards dancehall on Saturday with the special visit from Christopher Martin, one of Jamaica’s rising stars.

Grand Finale, Sunday, January 26^th

Los Ajenos and Freddy Alvez will open for international megastar Sean Paul. The show starts at noon, and will continue into the night with hard-working band Expresso until last call.
