During a town hall-style press conference at Facebook headquarters in California, CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg spoke about a new feature that will be tested soon in the world’s most popular social network.

Mr. Zuckerberg’s suggestion of the possibility of a “dislike” button came as an answer to a question about the lack of options beyond the ubiquitous thumbs-up icon that indicates a “like.”

A “dislike” function has been a popular request by many of the 1.5 billion Facebook users; however, Mr. Zuckerberg’s answer does not indicate that straightforward thumbs-down button will be forthcoming. One of the problems in this regard is the likelihood of a flurry of “dislikes” on ads or promoted content, which happen to be the main sources of revenue for this successful social networking enterprise.

In the past, Mr. Zuckerberg had hinted at projects that may enable a variety of opinions without risking affability. Advertisers will certainly not be interested in seeing Facebook become a mean and ugly place.
