Police on Tuesday morning discovered an entire family of five, including three children, brutally murdered in a home in Matapolo de Santa Cruz in Guanacaste, according to numerous official and unofficial sources, including the Ministry of Public Security (MSP), the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ) and child welfare agency, PANI.
The dead include a 13-year-old, 8-year-old, and a 6-year-old child, as well as their mother and father, according to the latest information received by The Costa Rica Star. All five were reportedly stabbed to death.
Two other children were also found seriously injured and taken to hospital, one in critical condition, according to the MSP.
Carlos Hidalgo, press officer for the MSP said that the suspect is believed to be a Nicaraguan national, and remains on the run.
Police officials said that the murders are believed to have occurred on Sunday, without providing further explanation.
According to an unconfirmed and unofficial source, one of the adult murder victims may have been a US citizen.
