Melania Trump, the wife of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, is preparing to take legal action against British daily The Daily Mail for an article about her past that she considers to be defamatory, her attorneys said on Monday.

“Mrs. Trump has placed several news organizations on notice of her legal claims against them, including Daily Mail among others, for making false and defamatory statements about her supposedly having been an ‘escort’ in the 1990s” before she married the real estate magnate, attorney Charles Harder said in an e-mail sent to online daily Politico on Monday.

“All such statements are 100% false, highly damaging to her reputation, and personally hurtful,” said Harder.

According to Harder, Trump’s wife “understands that news media have certain leeway in a presidential campaign, but outright lying about her in this way exceeds all bounds of appropriate news reporting and human decency.”

He referred to an article published on Aug. 19 by The Daily Mail questioning the biography and the modeling career of Melania Trump, who is of Slovenian origin and has been married to the mogul since 2005.

Harder was recently cited in the U.S. press for representing actor and former wrestler Hulk Hogan in the case against the founder of Gawker Media, Nick Denton.

Denton declared bankruptcy on Aug. 1 after losing a $140 million lawsuit for violating Hogan’s privacy.

Silicon Valley magnate Peter Thiel, an admirer of Donald Trump, paid for Hogan’s lawsuit against Gawker, who in 2007 had publicly posted a Hogan sex tape. EFE

The Daily Mail article in question arrived in the wake of sexy photos published by the New York Post, which showed a nude Mrs. Trump cavorting with another woman.

The juicy allegations in The Daily Mail article actually came from a Suzy, a Slovenian magazine that ran a feature report that claims Mrs. Trump worked for a New York modeling agency that doubled as a high-class escort service for rich clients such as Donald Trump.
