Less than a month after starting operations, budget airline Volaris is considering adding a route to Nicaragua, said José Adán Aguerri, president of Nicaragua’s Superior Private Business Council (Cosep).

The airline has expressed an interest in starting a flights between San José, Costa Rica and the colonial lake-side city of Granada, Nicaragua located in the southern part of the country.

“Volaris’ new operations have gradually stabilized, and in June there will be a new flight to another destination that is going to be announced; plans are currently under review,” said Aguerri.

The business leader said the discussion of increased flights is part of an effort between entrepreneurs in the two countries to enhance and facilitate trade between Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

At an upcoming meeting of members of Central America’s tourism sector in San José business leaders will meet with region’s council of Finance Ministers to review the region’s business integration agenda, said Aguerri.

President of Costa Rica’s National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), Lucy Valenti, and the head of the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (Intur), Anasha Campbell, will participate in the meeting.

Business leaders at that time are expected to propose improvements to processing immigrants at El Naranjo, on Nicaragua’s border with Costa Rica, and La Cruz, on Costa Rica’s border with Nicaragua.
