A terrible smell apparently originating in the air control tower forced Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaría International (SJO) airport, west of the capital San José, to close briefly this afternoon, Tuesday, October 10.

The country’s principal air terminal was paralyzed for approximately 35 minutes due to the unrelenting, and as of yet unidentified, stench.

And I thought nothing could top Poás Volcano’s fumes!

When air control tower workers were overcome by the horrible odor, they were evacuated so that any potential dangers associated with it could be investigated.

 

 

After nothing unusual or dangerous was detected, operations resumed, and no flights were affected, said Aeris Holdings, the company that runs the airport.

The situation is under investigation by Aeris to determine the cause of today’s unexpected, big airport stink.
