Emergency medical technicians from the Costa Rican Red Cross in Jacó on Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast treated four patients at neighboring Playa Herradura who were injured in an unusual accident this afternoon.

The four U.S. citizens who were visiting the upscale Marriott Los Sueños resort and marina, were injured when the golf cart they were traveling in tipped over on one of the roads inside the property.

The Red Cross reported that the golf cart driver apparently lost control of the vehicle on a sloping road, causing the vehicle to tip over.

Two emergency units were dispatched to the scene, according to Carolina Figueroa, a Red Cross official.

“The golf cart was reported as having tipped over at 2:35 p.m. with four occupants, causing all to be transferred to the local clinic, with two reported in ‘yellow’ condition and two in ‘red’ condition,” added Figueroa.

No further details on the medical status of the patients was currently available, nor were details on the accident.

Playa Herradura (Herradura Beach) is located about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) north of Jacó. Playa Herradura or Herradura Beach is home to the Los Sueños Resort and Marina, globally known as the Fishing Capital of Costa Rica and home to Costa Rica’s only full-service five-star marina and the largest fleet of the country’s top sport fishing captains and boats.
