A District Attorney from Heredia, Costa Rica Murdered as He Arrived to His Home

Hans De La O Solis, a district attorney in charge of the division of “in flagrante delicto” in Heredia, Costa Rica was shot six times as he was arriving to his house in the community of El Jardin in Calle Fallas, Desamparados.

The news was confirmed by the Public Ministry in a press release.

According to the official version, De La O left his work at the District Attorney’s Office in Heredia at around 11 p.m. He arrived to his house in Desamparados approximately 50 minutes later and as he was entering his house he was intercepted by several hitmen who shot him six times.

The man was transferred to the hospital in an ambulance but passed away at approximately 1 a.m. this Thursday morning, the attorney was 49 years-old and has a 20 year old daughter.

The reasons behind the murder are currently unknown, but the case is being investigated by the Assistant District Attorney Office of Organized Crimes (FACDO).

“We extend our condolences to his family, who we already contacted to offer our support as victims of such a serious and painful situation.

As an institution, the Public Ministry is forceful against these acts of violence; it is of utmost importance to carry out a deep investigation that can determine if this act is a result of the work of the prosecutor, because, if it is, we would be facing a situation that would surpass the limits; once again: we will not allow the Public Ministry to be weakened by these type of acts that have the objective of intimidating the civil servants that day to day carry out their jobs”, stated Emilia Navas, Attorney General ad interim.
