Costa Rican musician Giancarlo Guerrero added two more Grammy awards to his achievements, the announcement was made in the ceremony prior to the Grammy award official event.

Guerrero won in the category of Best Classical Compendium for Hidgon: All Things Majestic, Viola Concerto & Oboe Concerto, which was produced along with Tim Handley who also takes the Grammy for this work; and Best Contemporary Classical Composition for “Higdon: Viola Concerto” which was interpreted by the Nashville Orchestra directed by Guerrero. In this category he had a second nomination for Danielpour: Songs of Solitude.

The Costa Rican was also nominated in the category of Best Engineered Album: Classical for Danielpour: Songs of Solitude & War Songs, but the winner of this award was Mark Donahue for Shostakovich: Symphony No.5: Barber: Adagio.

With these two new awards Giancarlo Guerrero adds a total of 7 throughout his career. He is the current Music Director of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.

“Guerrero has appeared with many of the prominent North American orchestras, including those of Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Montreal, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, the Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. He has developed a strong guest conducting profile in Europe and has worked with great success in recent seasons with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Brussels Philharmonic, Deutsches Radio Philharmonie, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Netherlands Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Guerrero recently made his debut with Houston Grand Opera conducting Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. Early in his career, he worked regularly with the Costa Rican Lyric Opera and has conducted new productions of Carmen, La bohème, and Rigoletto. In 2008 he gave the Australian premiere of Osvaldo Golijov’s one-act opera Ainadamar at the Adelaide Festival to great acclaim” details the Opus3Artists.com website.

Guerrero will be performing in Costa Rica with the National Orchestra this season and will offer a concert in the Nation Theater in August 17 along with acclaimed trumpet player Jose Sibaja.
