Costa Rican police detained two agents of the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ) as suspects of attempting to sell information on an ongoing investigation to a third party for an amount of U.S. $15,000.00.

According to Walter Espinoza, director of OIJ, the suspects were part of the Police Unit of Recollection of the Office of Plans and Operations (OPO) of the OIJ and had more than 10 years of working for the judiciary police.

The men of last names Córdoba Quesada and Diaz Vega, apparently met with a man and offered him information on an organized crime case that has been under investigation since 2014; however, the possible buyer who had no direct relation with the case but could have benefited from the information, ended up reporting both agents to the OIJ.

No additional details regarding the case under investigation were revealed by Espinoza since it’s an open case that could come to closure in the next few weeks.

Back in February 3, the authorities arrested three police officers who tried to steal 73 kilograms of cocaine to another individual who was also arrested.

Since 2014 and through February 7, 2018 a total of 168 police officers had to be fired due to “loss of trust”.
