Inmate that Escaped from a Costa Rican Prison Friday was Captured Today

Officers of the Border Police in Costa Rica captured the man who had escaped from La Reforma Prison in San Rafael de Alajuela last Friday.

The man, Juan Jose Palacios Rivera, a native of Nicaragua, was aboard a bus with destination to Panama. The bus was stopped by the authorities before crossing the border after receiving information that the man was on it, in the revision the police officers identified the man, confirmed his fingerprints, and immediately proceeded with the arrest.

Since Friday the Border Police had strengthened their security and were conducting checks of buses and cars in both frontiers.

Palacios escaped from La Reforma in the afternoon of Friday, June 29, he was in a “trust” regime and worked in the prison’s kitchen. The serving sentence since 2014 for aggravated robbery and simple theft.
