The National Emergency Commission (CNE) in Costa Rica confirmed they provided attention to over 600 people in fourteen temporary shelters set up in three provinces, Limon, Heredia and Cartago.

For the province of Limon a total of 6 shelters were set up, another 6 in Heredia and two in Cartago.

Thousands of users also had interruptions of their electricity, telecommunications and water services, ICE confirmed that more then 9 thousand people remain without electricity ICE personnel will continue to work on reestablishing these services as the weather conditions permit.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation informed they registered 16 landslides in Route 32, out of which 12 were small or medium and 4 of considerable size. Engineers of the National Roads Authority (CONAVI) consider that at least two days of work will be required to clean up the landslides that are still blocking several areas of the road, particularly kilometers 18,21,29,35 and 39.

“Today we evacuated a total of 352 people of Route 32, thanks to the coordinated work of several institutions. Tomorrow (Sunday) at 5:30 a.m. if the conditions allow it, we will continue removing the material. Right now (9:30 p.m.) a total of 150 people still remain stranded but are in safe zones and have been guaranteed food and water”, explained the CNE.

The Costa Rica Red Cross also participated in rescues and evacuations in different communities of Limon and Cartago.
