The National Emergency Commission (CNE) declared red alert for the counties of Puntarenas, Nicoya, Santa Cruz, Nandayure and Hojancha, due to the high vulnerability of the of the land and the possibility of more rain over the next 12 hours.

In total 1666 people have been transferred to 19 shelters, 106 communities maintain a high level of effects, floods, fallen trees, mud slides, among others.

The yellow alert remains for the counties of Quepos, Parrita, Garabito, Liberia, Carrillo, Bagaces, Ca@as, and Abangares, while the Central Valley, North Zone and South Pacific are under green alert.

“With the purpose of providing adequate humanitarian assistance to people in the affected communities and maintain vigilance over the atmospheric phenomenon, the Emergency Committees will remain active all through the weekend to provide attention to those people in temporary shelters and to continue assessing the damages”.

Route 106 in Paquera is closed due to several mudslides, also roads 901,902, and 903 which communicate the coastal side of Paquera and Jicaral

The weather conditions caused a group of close to 300 people to spend the night sleeping on the ferry.
