The Costa Rican Train Institute (INCOFER) announced today that they have already approved the purchase of 8 new trains from the factory, CRRC Quingdao Sigang Co., Ltd. company that was awarded the bid.

The awarding was carried out under the figure of successive direct negotiation, in accordance to Article 19 of the Special Regimen Regulation of Administrative Contracting, Law 9366.

These trains, equipped with the latest technology, have two Diesel Multiple Units¨ (DMU) each, and will be manufactured according to the specif technical requirements incorporated by INCOFER in the process of contracting.

The equipment for the maintenance, parts and training is also included in the total investment of $32.659.122,82.

The trains will have capacity for 372 passengers, double the current amount, they will have A/C, preferential seats and space for wheelchairs. The units have innovative components that reduce the internal and external noise for the comfort of the passengers.

President Carlos Alvarado, reaffirmed the commitment of his government on improving public transportation and progress towards a more environmentally responsible country.

Once the contract is signed, the first two trains should be delivered in a term of 16 months, and the rest in 18 months.
