Across the pond, Prince Harry and his Hollywood-dream-girl Meghan Markle stole the spotlight off Washington, DC — giving us a break from you know what – all the lawyers, politicians and investigations. It’s nice to see a young couple obviously in love about to embark on their public life. At 36-years-old Miss Meghan shines bright in the spotlight.

Mainstream media began doing live remotes from London beginning early last week which culminated in that Saturday spectacle of a Royal Wedding with all the trimmings, bells and whistles you come to expect when Queen Elizabeth pulls out all the stops and rolls out the red carpet with the world looking on. The pageantry was indeed impressive on the grounds of the Royal residence Windsor Castle with the wedding service at St. George’s Chapel – the scene of several past Royal weddings and the final resting place of 10 former Royal monarchs.

The untraditional wedding ceremony included an African-America choir singing an emotional rendition of Otis Redding’s ‘Stand By Me’ which will be quite a new feather in the cap of Redding’s legacy. That song sung by that choir, of course, recognized and praised Princess Meghan’s heritage.

Prince Harry, 33, is an interesting fellow, not that his older brother isn’t as well, but their long-term destinies may be so different. Prince William – the late Princess Diana’s other son — will one day be King of England if the Royal family survives and from the looks of Saturday’s Royal Wedding the Royal Family is resilient. Queen Elizabeth, well into her 90s along with her husband Prince Phillip, seems to be going strong and not letting go of her ‘Queenship’ anytime soon. Her son, Prince Charles, is pushing 70. He may never be King of England if his mom outlives him or dementia takes over, but he looked good walking his new daughter-in-law down the aisle — in the absence of her real father.

So that’s the lineage for the next few generations of English royalty, but where does that leave Prince Harry – who is 6th in line for Royal succession to the English Throne? This young prince is no push-over-privileged-elite wannabe. He has proven himself to be a real man’s man. He’s a gentleman, an officer and an Apache helicopter pilot in the Royal Army Air Force. That’s not small potatoes. He has been deployed to dangerous combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan where he served with distinction incognito. He has seen the horror of war up close and with that comes experience gained in no other way.

With his new life with the now Princess Meghan will Prince Harry be just another Royal family figurehead – like his father — that shows up for special occasions, routine ceremonies and funerals for heads-of-state somewhere in the world? Other than being social butterflies around London, Prince Charles and wife Camilla really don’t do much while this new princess will hit the ground running and Prince Harry may be hard pressed to keep up with her. This girl – now the new Duchess of Sussex — has a mind of her own and she’s not afraid of anything — not now.

This idea will make some laugh, but here it goes. What if Prince Harry sought and won a seat in Parliament? What if — at some point down the road — Prince Harry is elected or appointed Prime Minister of England and his wife becomes ‘First Lady’ of the United Kingdom? English laws do not forbid Royal family members from holding elected office, but there are stipulations. Why not Prince Harry for Parliament? His unique experiences are what he would bring to the table for the benefit of the entire United Kingdom, its people and their influence around the world. With his beloved mother looking down on him, he would be a force to be reckoned with for generations to come.

What a combo it would be if Prince William becomes King of England and his brother becomes Prime Minister. Prince Harry’s election could be a shoe-in. Would you run against Princess Diana’s red-headed, chopper-pilot son?

There’s no shortage of Royal family members — many of whom just live off the land of royalty, castles and playing polo while being called the ‘Duke’ of this or the ‘Duchess’ of that. So far Prince Harry’s brother Prince William and wife Kate have two boys and a girl. It’s a given more Royal kids are on the way with Prince Harry and Princess Meghan. There are plenty of future kings and queens coming up the ranks, but future Prime Ministers? Let’s hope so.
