The Costa Rican-America Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) presented their position with regards to the fiscal crisis in Costa Rica and the proposed solutions presented by the government.
AmCham considers that the legislative procedure should include sufficient space for a political negotiation of the new elements present in the Law to Strengthen the Public Finances bill, and that this process “includes concrete data on their impact over the market and the investment climate”.

“AmCham understands the urgency of reaching a resolution to the fiscal crisis, however, it considers that this urgent treatment should not put us in danger of decisions being taken that end up being damaging to the nation”.

Elias Soley, President of AmCham, commented “The last thing we want is to approve solutions that are not the solution, or that affect competitivity, harms the creation of new jobs and triggers an economic recession in the country. It is possible that some of the fiscal adjustments being done in this reform are not sufficient, and therefore they should be followed not just with measures related to the containment of public expenses and public employment, but also by decisively promoting and agenda of economic reactivation that allows growth as a country and generates new jobs”.
