American Stafford Costa Rica, in conjunction with the National Service of Animal Health and Service (SENASA in Spanish) represented by regional director Allan Sanchez, recently announced the first seizure of dogs used in illegal fights. The director of AmStaff Costa Rica, Joana R, issued the following statement:
“It is a continuous struggle, and we will not give up until there is a law that penalizes with jail time those who take part in this practice, which hurt and kill our animals. We must leave behind the myth of the so called “Potentially Dangerous Dogs” (or its initials in Spanish PPP for “Perros Potencialmente Peligrosos)”
We must cease laying blame on specific breeds for the errors committed by human beings. Errors that cost the life, health and the stability of our dogs.”
With the support of SENASA, AmStaff has been able to process many complaints of abuse against the American Staffordshire Terrier and Pit Bull breeds; this is why the joint effort is fundamental in order to perform this worthwhile effort and put an end to dog fighting and all other forms of animal abuse and cruelty.
American Stafford Costa Rica has been able to put up for adoption many of these dogs who deserve a second chance. After an intensive physical and mental rehabilitation process, many of these dogs get to know a world of love and respect where they are not treated as weapons, where they should NOT have to win fights in order to satisfy the ego of their irresponsible, so-called, owners.
AmStaff Costa Rica makes an appeal to all readers and the nation to please PLEASE report all animal abuse, report clandestine dog fights in your area. Let’s not look the other and say its not your problem… Animal abuse and dog fighting is everyone’s problem!
