APM Terminals now has access to the most modern container scanner in Latin America which will be used to verify all the loads traveling to the United States and in this way help battle illegal contraband of weapons, drugs, cash, radioactive materials, plagues, etc.
¨We have the capacity of scanning all the containers going to the United States. All operators have been trained, we trust that this scanner will contribute to Costa Rica´s port security. As of now we make this modern equipment available to the authorities and the export sector¨, commented Kenneth Waugh, general director of APM Terminals.
The equipment takes a digital x-ray of the container, it shows through different colors the existence of dangerous, forbidden or suspicious cargo.
The implementation of this new security system helps comply with the Safe Port agreement signed with the United States authorities. It is also a non-destructive method of inspection which makes the process simpler and fast, making it beneficial for shippments of fresh products.
The scanning service has a cost of $29 per container.
