Cleaning out your closets might provide you with some trade opportunities; bartering, human’s oldest form of economic transaction has gone digital.
A new App, available for both iOS and Android, facilitates bartering in Costa Rica.
Over the past four months the platform has aided close to 6,000 transactions. “Su Canje” currently has some 7,000 App users and over 22,000 likes on Facebook.
“Su Canje,” literally meaning “Your Exchange,” is from the Spanish verb “canjear,” to exchange or barter.
Items from guitars to wedding dresses and refrigerators to pop art, and even services can be readily seen on the site with their value listed.
Services or products can be purchased with money or with products or services of an equal value.
The Su Canje website as well as their Facebook page provide 1-minute tutorial videos on how to start bartering.
The visuals and ease of the App may provide a helpful platform for crossing the language barrier that foreigners might otherwise encounter in a face-to-face encounter.
Rather than letting your old things gather dust (or mould as things go here in the tropics), you might find something you need or like by scrolling on your smart phone.
