Breaking: 7:30 am Shootout in Front of Escazú, Costa Rica Private School Leaves 2 Dead

According to preliminary reports by police and in local media, a shootout took place this morning, Monday, May 15, at 7:30 in Guachipelín de Escazú in front of the Mount View Educational Center, a private school. Two people are reported dead.

In the incident, a Lexus 4×4 driven by Elias Akl was shot at outside the school in the upscale western district of San José, and then entered the facility. Inside the vehicle, there was one person dead

In addition, according to Carlos Hidalgo, spokesman for the Public Security Ministry, a person apparently involved with the shooting arrived at the Santa Ana police station some time after the attack. The person had a bullet wound and died shortly after reaching the police station.

Preliminary reports say that three people were directly involved in the deadly shooting: two adults and one minor. The minor has been wounded with several bullet wounds, and is in stable condition after being treated at the National Children’s Hospital.

At the scene, police investigators found more than 30 bullet shells on the ground.

Reports indicate the road from the Guachipelin tunnel (under route 27) is closed from the tunnel north beyond the Mount View School for an indefinite amount of time while the crime is investigated. Only people who live in residential complexes in that area will be allowed through, and must present their ID to police.
