In a recent off-air telephone call with Piers Morgan, the host of a popular news show on cable TV network CNN, Casey Anthony denied that she was relocating to Costa Rica. Ms. Anthony was acquitted of criminal charges related to the death of her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony in 2011, but she has been serving a probation sentence for check fraud in Florida. The rumors surrounding her move to Costa Rica originated from social media reports and tabloid news outlets back in May.

The phone call took place in advance of an appearance by Ms. Anthony’s attorney Cheney Mason on Piers Morgan Tonight. Ms. Anthony has been able to keep an extremely low profile since her acquittal, and her phone call with Mr. Morgan was the first contact she has had with the media this year. Her silence, however, has not kept her away from the news headlines.

Mr. Morgan reported details of his conversation with Ms. Anthony on his Twitter feed and on his interview with Mr. Mason. He indicated that Ms. Anthony denied several speculations:

“I do not weigh 500 pounds and I am not moving to Costa Rica”

“I’ve never been a party girl”

“My life totally changed a year ago, but I’m dealing with it”

“Obviously, I didn’t kill my daughter”

On Piers Morgan Tonight, Mr. Mason also mentioned that her client is reading the “Hunger Games” best-selling trilogy.

A former member of Ms. Anthony’s defense team, Jose Baez, is currently publicizing his upcoming book: “Presumed Guilty, Casey Anthony: The Inside Story.” According to tabloid and gossip media site LA Late, the new book by Mr. Baez will reveal the whirlwind whereabouts of Ms. Anthony immediately after her acquittal and release from prison: Ms. Anthony’s first stop was a brief reunion with friends at a Steak ‘n Shake fast food franchise in Orlando. She then boarded a private jet that whisked her away to St. George Island in the Gulf of Mexico.

St. George Island is home to a pristine Florida state park and a nesting ground for loggerhead sea turtles. The island is also home to very exclusive gated communities and a private airstrip where Ms. Anthony landed after her acquittal. She spent a few days in a luxury residence before traveling to New York, California and Ohio.

Previous articles in The Costa Rica Star described how the speculations of her move to our country got started, and the difficulties she may have faced in obtaining residency. The conjectures were not unfounded: Ms. Anthony’s jailhouse correspondence with another Florida inmate revealed her plans to move to Costa Rica, and to that extent she was also brushing up on her Spanish. Readers who weighed in with their opinions about the possible relocation were split: residents of Costa Rica were mostly opposed while many U.S. residents expressed relief.

Meanwhile, “Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony” -an upcoming film due to air on the Lifetime cable TV network- has undergone a major casting change. Young Canadian actress Holly Deveaux will no longer star as Ms. Anthony. The role will now be played by Virginia Welch, according to Digital Spy UK. The film will be based on yet another book written by a lawyer associated with the infamous case: Florida prosecutor Jeff Ashton.
