Eating Chicken Wings in Costa RicaIn a globalized world where hamburgers and fries rule the fast food markets, chicken wings are now becoming just as popular, and this is no different for Costa Rica, where this dish continues to gain the acceptance of locals and foreigners alike. If you happen to be in the country and want to try the best bbq or buffalo chicken wings in town, this article is for you. Don’t forget your paper towel and enough cold beer to kill a small horse.

Hooters: This franchise of restaurants is famous worldwide for their chicken wings, which you can order in a plate of 10, 20 or even 50 pieces. You can either order regular wings or boneless wings, and in Hooters you will find a nice selection of spicy choices including mild, medium, hot and 911 hot. If you are fond of eating wings but are currently trying to lose some weight, in Hooters you can order them naked style (unbreaded) in a wing flappertizer that also includes celery sticks and bleu cheese dressing. This chain of restaurants has been in Costa Rica for a while now, and since they opened their first locale in Escazú (located in Plaza Itzcazú), they have expanded with two more: one in San Pedro (located in front of UCR’s law school) and the most recent one in Heredia (located in Plaza Bratsi).

Chichis: This is an American Style sports bar with two current locations: one in San Pedro (south west from rotonda de la bandera) and one in Escazú (San Rafael). Now, since we know that Hooters is to chicken wings what McDonald’s is to burgers, it is difficult to name any restaurant that will have their own version of wings, meaning that Chichis is just another place where they have managed to imitate Hooters’s style, but they actually do a good job at it, and their ‘alitas’, as chicken wings are known in Costa Rica, are certainly worth of trying.
