The Central America Circus and Social Art Encounter a program part of the Cirque du Monde, a social responsibility program of Cirque Du Soleil will be taking place in Costa Rica February 16th through the 19th.
Two experts from the famous Cirque Du Soleil, Mariano López from Canada and Tomasso Negri from Italy, will train seven Costa Rican instructors and eight Central Americans in the arts of “social circus”; the idea is that these local instructors can pass on their knowledge to the new generations, specially the youth in social risk.
López has trained instructors in different areas of America, Africa, Asia and Europe, while Negri is the director of the Italian National Circus Network. The participants were previously selected and include 10 men and 5 women.
The different arts and abilities taught will help young people build their self-esteem, learn discipline, team work and persistence, explained Sol Carballo, director of the School of Dance, Theater and Circus of Parque La Libertad.
“For instance, a class of acrobatics teaches the value of persistence through small achievements, and they learn to look after their partners in group acrobatics”, continued Carballo.
The encounter will also offer artistic presentations, conferences and workshops directed to the general public. This is not the first time this
The event will take place at Parque la Libertad, a recreation and community center in Desamparados.
