A man and a woman lost their lives in different water accidents in Puntarenas this weekend.

The first accident took place in Playa Hermosa in the Central Pacific when a 40-year-old woman of last names Soto Alvarez who was swimming along with her kids was dragged in by the tide; when the rescue team arrived they were able to pull her out but it was too late.

The second incident occurred in Cobano, also in Puntarenas, when a man of last names Montero Rodríguez and 60 years-old was fishing in the area of Tambor and Tangomar with some family members; apparently at some point his fishing line got stuck and he decided to go in the water to loosen it, however, a wave dragged him in and his family members could not find him. His body finally turned up at around 6 p.m. this Saturday. Montero had been camping for a few days in the area, he was a native of San Ramón, Alajuela .

The Costa Rican Institute of Meteorology had warned of dangerous conditions at the beaches this weekend at the Pacific and Caribbean due to the presence of a cold front which is causing strong winds in the entire country and rainfall in the Caribbean and South Zone specially. Large waves represent a danger for swimmers and surfers.

The National Coast Guard service has asked fisherman and boat owners to avoid if possible to navigate under this conditions. The Naranjo Ferry Service in Puntarenas was also suspended this Sunday as a preventive measure.
