The government of Costa Rica condemned the US bombing over Syria that took place on Friday evening, as well as the chemical weapons attacks that occurred in the city of Duma on April 7.

The actions taken by the United States were justified by President Trump as a response to the toxic attacks that caused the death of many civilians in Syria.

President Luis Guillermo Solis and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs blamed the regimen of Bashar Al Assad for the chemical attacks: “Costa Rica expresses its firm and energetic condemn of the chemical weapons attacks in Syria by the regimen of Bashar Al Assad, which constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights and international humanitarian laws. The responsible parties must face justice and this attack should not be left unpunished”.

“According to our values and principles of peace and disarmament, we expect a solution based in the instruments of International Law. It is the responsibility of the Security Council to assume its responsibility and guarantee peace and security, avoiding bigger fragility in the region”, expressed President Solis.

President Solis made his statements during the VIII Summit of the Americas which is taking place in Peru; after stating his position and in response to the insisting questions of the press, Solis clarified “Costa Rica condemns the attacks (all of them), and we consider that the Security Council should take responsibility before the international community to maintain peace and international security to avoid the conflict to continue escalating”.
