Route 257 which connects route 32 with the new APM Terminals Moin will have an ecological corridor that will allow monkeys, sloths and other small animals to go across without danger of being run over.

This is one of the environmental aspects being worked into the project currently under construction in the Caribbean.
The new road, valued in close to $71 million US dollars, involves only 2.8 kilometers, costing five times more than the 50 kilometer road between Liberia and Cañas which had a total cost of $251 million USD; according to the constructing company the cost increased precisely because of the different environmental aspects that are being taken into consideration.

Yet, and even with all the measures in place to help mitigate the environmental impact, the Costa Rican Federation for the Conservation of the Environment deems this efforts as insufficient, stating that the wetlands will receive an irreversible impact during the construction work since for the next 24 months almost 200 trucks will come in through this road daily and because of the many trips they make carrying construction materials for the filling of the port. Once the construction finishes the problem will continue with the containers that will be coming in and out on a daily basis.

The APM Terminal project had a 45% progress at the end of September and was expecting no delays to start operations in 2018.
