Costa Rica’s male national soccer team and its equal from the USA, met in the semi-finals of the Gold Cup 2017 at the AT&T stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, where Costa Rica lost 2-0 to the US.

The first 90’ minutes came and went without any goals, but there were several opportunities to score by both teams. Actually just fifteen minutes into the game, Jordan Morris had the first clear chance to open the score, and soon after it was David Guzmán who missed a shot for Costa Rica.

For “La sele” it was evident that one player had a different level from the rest, Bryan Ruiz was carrying a big part of the offensive game on his shoulders without much support from the rest of the team.

The defense worked well during the first 45 minutes, they were able to control the multiple attacks from USA.

As the second half began, Costa Rica came out a bit more aggressive, but once again missed a couple of opportunities to score, a story that continued to repeat itself all throughout this world cup, “La Sele” creates chances but has a very hard time closing the deal.

The changes made by head coach Bruce Arena in the second half made all the difference in the world, the first goal came by Jozy Altidore at minute 72’ and ten minutes later it was Clint Dempsey who with an impeccable throw in marked the second and final goal of the game.

With this result, the United States male national soccer team classified for the tenth time to a Gold Cup final.
