The National Power and Light Company (CNFL) inaugurated the first fast charge station for electric vehicles in Costa Rica.

This new station, located in the facilities of the CNFL in Escazu, is actually the first fast charge station in the Central American region, and it has the capacity to charge the battery of an electric vehicle up to an 80% in 30 minutes.

According to the CNFL this is just the first of 28 fast stations that will be installed in the country, the second one will be in Curridabat and will be inaugurated before the end of this 2018. The rest will be installed in 2019. The consumption information will be collected and used to identify the behavior and patters of charge of the national electric fleet.

The station complies with international standards compatible with American and Japanese plug formats.

“We want Costa Ricans to have the possibility of mobilizing throughout the entire territory with a charging station at least every 80 kilometers (Approx. 50 miles), and closer by in the area of San Jose”, commented Allan Blanco from the CNFL.

“Costa Rica has projected itself worldwide as a decarbonization laboratory, and today we give another step towards that goal, promoting change in electric mobility. We have everything, including renewable energy generation, to motivate the population and the economic sectors to use emission free transportation options”, said First Lady, Claudia Dobles.
