Former President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Oscar Arias will marry again this Saturday, Nov. 17, at a private ceremony at his home in Pavas. His bride is Suzanne Fischel who has been his girl-friend for three years.
This is the second marriage for the politician and statesman. His first wife, Margarita Peñon, served as his elegant, intelligent First Lady during his first term of office in the 1980s. That marriage ended in divorce.
Jovially and with good humor, Arias played down the ceremony with uncharacteristic shyness, “It will be a thing with some close friends. We´re not going to send out a press release or anything. I don´t like that because this is something very private.”
The guest list, according to the national newspaper La Nacion, is rumored to be around 80 persons. The invitations, said the paper, are, like the bride’s dress, of a champagne tone.
The wedding dinner will be held in Arias’ spacious back garden where the swimming pool, reported the paper, has been temporarily covered over. That is where the after ceremony toasts will be held.
