In an operation by land, sea and air that began last Wednesday and concluded this Friday morning Costa Rican authorities seized a total 1.4 tons of marijuana and 44 kilograms of cocaine.

Members of the Coast Guard Service received information of international authorities of a suspicious boat and they immediately set out to intercept them. As soon as the suspicious vessel spotted the patrol boat they sped to try to escape, finally the boat ran aground in the area of Salsipuedes Beach in Puerto Jiménez, Golfito, Puntarenas, the three men aboard took advantage of the difficult access to the area and escaped through the jungle.

Aerial surveillance and Border Control Police as well as Public Police Force joined efforts to find the suspects and finally were able to arrest them this Friday afternoon. One of the man is a Costa Rican of last name Vargas and the other two are natives of Nicaragua of last names Reyes and Reñazco.

The drug found in the boat was arranged in 57 bundles that included 2,703 packages of marijuana 2,431 of which weighed half a kilogram, and 272 packages of 1 kilogram each, for a total of 1,457 kilograms of marijuana. In addition to this, 44 packages of cocaine of 1 kilogram each.
