The Ministry of Public Security confirmed that a total of 580 kilograms of cocaine were found aboard a go-fast boat in Puntarenas, across from Cabo Blanco.

“Intelligence work carried out by the police bodies of the Ministry of Public Security in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the USA, a large shipment of cocaine was intercepted”

The drugs were found aboard a ship of name “El Dorado” which was semi submerged and close to another small ship with the name “Diria” and plates of Puntarenas P548 with 6 men onboard, when they noticed the presence of the National Coast Guard Service they attempted to escape but were intercepted quicky.

The six man aboard were: two Colombians of last names Hernandez and Mosquera, an Ecuadorian last name Villareal, a Nicaraguan of last name Velasquez and two Costa Ricans of last names Briceño and Umaña.

Michael Soto, Ministry of Security, highlighted the work done by the Drug Control Police and the National Coast Guard Service, “This is another important blow to international drug trafficking cells that use the country as a transit location and/or storage place”.
