The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) is replacing 100 vehicles that work with diesel or gas for electric cars.

The cars purchased are 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV’s that will be used throughout the entire territory. The signing of the purchase for $3.5 million took place on Monday and the cars will be delivered within the next 5 months; funds came from a loan given by the Inter-American Development Bank.

“ICE seeks to promote the use of electric cars in the public institutions and contribute actively with the adoption of electric-mobility in the country”, states the press release.

With the battery fully charged these cars can run 220 kilometers in average. The purchase included 110 battery chargers that take up to four hours to do a full recharge.
