Monday, December 25 in the waters of the Pacific 70 nautical miles from the entrance to the Gulf the Costa Rica Drug Control Police and the National Coast Guard Service found a cocaine cargo attached to a GPS buoy with the assistance from a US P-3 maritime surveillance aircraft.

The drug cargo was taken to the Golfito Port, a total of 22 packets of 50 kilograms each and a smaller one, making a total of over one ton of cocaine.

Just last Friday the Coast Guard Service intercepted a fishing boat in the area of Golfo Dulce carrying almost one ton of cocaine which was hidden in a storage area and under a lot of ice. Seven men were arrested in this operation, four of them foreigners.

With the cocaine found this Monday the Costa Rican authorities have managed to seize close to 29 tons of cocaine, a historic amount.

The Ministry of Security has confirmed they are investing in new vessels and ground vehicles to continue to battle drug trafficking in the country.
Costa Rica is a common drug route, connecting countries were drugs are produced in South America to the United States which is their biggest market.
