A couple formed by a Colombian native of last name Caicedo and a Costa Rican woman of last name Centeno were arrested this Saturday in La Uruca as suspects of theft affecting two Canadian tourists.

This couple had been arrested back in February 8, 2018 in Heredia, as suspects of participating in at least 20 thefts that took place between June 2017 and February 2018 and where tourists were the main victims.

Caicedo and Centeno would operate by puncturing the tires of the tourists’ vehicles and then showing up to offer help, at which point they would steal their valuables.

The arrest took place at around 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018 after a persecution that began in La Sabana and concluded in La Uruca; the suspects stole several items from a couple of Canadian tourists that traveled in a rental car; the Canadian woman uses a prosthetic leg and they stole the medication she gets only in her native country; they also stole $1000.00 in cash, photography equipment and a tablet.

According to the authorities the couple’s MO is to stand watch close to rental cars and follow their targets for a period of time, when the tourists would make a stop the couple sought the opportunity to damage the tires.

When the foreigners got back to the car they would approach them to offer their help and the minute they got distracted they would steal their belongings.
