Civil Aviation in Costa Rica invested almost $5.7 million USD in the intervention of the Drake airport in Osa, Puntarenas, the updates were inaugurated by President Carlos Alvarado Wednesday January 17th.

Tourism is the main economic activity in Drake, a region known for its lush raw nature. The project consisted of construction of a new 250 square meter terminal (2798.62 ft.), a platform to park three type B planes (between 15 to 24 meters [50-79 ft] wide), the extension of the landing strip, improvements of the security strip and the perimeter fence. The new terminal has a capacity for 162 people.

The new terminal offers national and foreign tourists better conditions, security and overall a better experience; for many years this airport was just an airstrip that didn´t have proper infrastructure for visitors.

Civil Aviation has been investing in the different domestic airports including Quepos, Palmar Sur, Golfito and Pérez Zeledón with the purpose of reactivating the economy in each of the regions, specially those that depend mainly on the tourism activity.
