The Ministry of Culture in Costa Rica has informed they expect to allow small public events starting July 2021 following, of course, new sanitary protocols to guarantee the security of the attending audience.

Ada Acuña, director of Artistic Production of the Ministry of Culture explained that a massive event is “financially viable when it’s for a minimum 10,000 to 15,000 people”.

Meetings will be held starting in February with events promoting companies to evaluate the country’s situation in regard to the pandemic and to begin defining the necessary protocols to follow to help care for the health of the public.

“The Ministry of Culture goes hand in hand with the criteria provided by the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Health. We need to consider all this information when we visualize the pandemic and massive events being so risky, the most important thing for us is our public”, said Acuña.

Event producers consider that any possibility of reopening is in their benefit, and the economic risk of the events will fall on each producing company and their negotiations.

As of last Friday, Costa Rica reported a total of 177,614 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, out of which, 136,083 are already recovered. The country has reached 2,305 deaths related to Covid-19.
