The heavy and constant rains that have affected Costa Rica since last Friday have cause damage in different communities, floods, landslides, overflowing rivers and damaged infrastructure.

Problems on Route 32 are not uncommon throughout the rainy season, and once again it remained closed for several hours as a result of multiple landslides. The road has since been cleared for transit once again.

The same problem affected Cerro de la Muerte, in the area known as Las Hortensias which connects Cartago with Perez Zeledon. Although the majority of the material has been cleaned up by the National Council of Viability there are areas were transit is being regulated due to the presence of huge rocks that require the use of dynamite to be removed.

On the other hand, the counties of Mora and Puriscal also were severely affected, the access to Puriscal was closed off for several hours, overflown rivers (Rio Jorco) dragging sediments and materials caused the closure of the Quitirrisi water plant leaving neighbors without water.

One of the areas that suffered most was General Viejo in Perez Zeledon, where a bridge that had been built by the community was dragged by the river leaving them isolated.
San Carlos and Tilaran reported fallen trees and problems with the electricity.

The rainy season has just begun in Costa Rica and it’s already causing many problems, take precautions when driving specially in areas prone to landslides, watch out for tree branches and overflown rivers.
