Foodie Tours Delight the Senses and Connect Visitors to Costa Rican Culture and History

Foodie Tours invites gastronomy lovers to experience a sensory experience in different parts of Costa Rica.

Whether you are a gourmet or not, these tours will be sure to educate and entertain through visits to restaurants and interactions between chefs and participants to learn about the foods used, their history, and the traditions surrounding the dishes.

“We want attendees to learn about and identify with the ingredients in each dish, to value what is harvested in Costa Rica, as well as the creativity of the chefs in the country, who buy their products from small producers or have their own farms,” explained Adriana H. Font, founder of Foodie Tours Costa Rica.

The “Farm to Table” tour involves restaurants that buy directly from small farmers and offer contemporary Costa Rican cuisine. This gastronomic tour takes place in Barrio Escalante near downtown San José, and starts at 11 a.m. and ends after dinner around 5 p.m.

Tours include stops in a different restaurants for appetizers, snacks, main courses, and desserts – so be prepared to through your diet to the wind! Each tour also offers a workshop. Some topics include coffee tasting, mixology, cooking.

Other themes include Fusion Twist (gastronomy with a European influence), Latin American Flavors, and Agro-Culture. Dishes on all the tours highlight fresh and when possible organic Costa Rican seasonal products.

As foodies stroll from one restaurant to another, a bilingual guide explains the history of the neighborhoods, and cultural and artistic points of interest in the area.

Private tours for two or more people, reservations through the Foodie Tours website or by email at <[email protected]>. These can be personalized to fit interests such as vegetarian, vegan, wine pairing, craft beer, coffee.

Group events will be held on weekends, and several times a month during the week and will be announced on the company’s Facebook and Instagram pages, said Font.

Foodie Tours also organizes one-day gastronomic tours with visits to farms, and participation in cooking or farming workshops, and overnight tours to regions such as the Caribbean, Arenal, Dota and Turrialba to stay in rural areas.

Overnight tours include community visits, farm tours, waterfall hikes, hot spring soaks, and food-related activities.
