A body discovered on a beach just outside Costa Rica’s Santa Rosa National Park in Guanacaste is believed to be a German tourist who had been missing since entering the park with friends on Monday, according to the Ministry of Public Security (MSP).

The remains, which had been partially scavenged by wildlife, are believed to be those of German citizen, Cristhian Piter, who was in his late 20s, according to reports.

Piter had entered the Santa Rosa National Park with two other German tourists on Monday. The group had informed parked rangers that they would be leaving the park later that day.

However, only two members of the group emerged from the park, informing park rangers that Piter had separated from the group and gotten lost.

For now, authorities are investigating the case as an accidental death.
