Adrian Grenier, the star of the hit series Entourage, which is soon to be released as a feature film, arrived in Costa Rica this past Sunday for the purposes of swimming with sharks. That much can be gleaned through a series of social media updates posted by the famous actor, producer and musician on his Facebook and Instagram accounts.

The famous actor is diving off Isla del Coco (Cocos Island) with a group of biologists and conservation activists who are concerned about the threats to sharks and the rich marine ecosystem in the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Mr. Grenier also posted a video on his Facebook account; he explained that he is excited about the trip and confessed about feeling a bit nervous and overwhelmed not only at the prospect of diving with sharks but also at having to learn technical aspects such as the use of nitrox.

On Facebook, Mr. Grenier commented:

On my way! 10 days, 35 hrs out to sea, without cell service or internet to dive with sharks!!!

Mr. Grenier is with excellent company while diving off the Costa Rica shoreline. The beautiful conservation activist Ocean Ramsey, who is known as a “shark whisperer,” will be part of the expedition; the biography on her website reads:

Growing up surfing and diving in Hawaii and San Diego, I’ve shared the water with sharks my entire life. I’m a professional scuba instructor, advanced free diver and surfer, and an avid swimmer. I went to college for marine biology and worked as an aquarist and curator with sharks and rays at 3 different marine parks. At home on Oahu, I regularly dive to photograph sharks. I feel extremely fortunate that some of the greatest moments of my life have been diving with Great Whites. It’s difficult to express the incredible joy and breathtaking emotion experienced locking eyes with a Great White. Watching the sharks acknowledge and observe me while I peacefully allow them to swim towards me and the experience as they accept my touch. I hope that by sharing my experiences with sharks, I might inspire others to take action and help protect these amazing creatures before it’s too late.

This visit by Mr. Grenier is not the only “Entourage” nexus to Costa Rica. As reported by The Costa Rica Star in 2012:

The Sanctuary [resort in Nicoya] was recently mentioned as the “ultimate jungle gym” by Kathryn Branch in The New York Times Style Magazine. The founders are Jeff Gossett and Perrey Reeves, an actress who is perhaps best remembered for playing the spouse of Hollywood agent Ari Gold on HBO’s acclaimed series Entourage.
