Heavy rains are expected in the Central Valley and the Pacific for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the National Emergency Commission declared Green Alert for these regions.

The rains would be caused by low pressure system located at the southwest of the Caribbean Sea that has a 20% possibility of transforming into a tropical depression.

“Analysis have determined the presence of a low-pressure system in the Caribbean Sea. At the same time, the intertropical convergence zone is also active over the country”, explained the National Meteorological Institute.

“In relation to the pattern of rain, they are expected to be of variable intensity and intermittent with the the following distribution: Wednesday and Thursday: rain can start since the early morning hours particularly in the Central and South Pacific, affecting the Central Valley occasionally. Rain could be intermittent throughout the day and night in the Pacific. Friday: rainy activity is expected since the early morning hours specially in the North and Central Pacific, affecting the Central Valley in an intermittent pattern.

The Green Alert is a preventive measure since the rains from the past weekend left behind saturated floors, situation that could cause floods and mudslides, precautions must be taken in areas pron to floods and mudslides, particularly Routes 27 and 32.
Those enjoying the beaches of the Pacific should also exercise caution.
