Miguel Gamboa of Costa Rica was in Oxford, North Carolina this June 14th through 16th to represent himself and his country in The International Defensive Pistol Association sanctioned 2012 Carolina Cup.
“The Range” in Oxford, held 359 excellent shooters from 24 of the United States, Puerto Rico, Finland, Austria, Italy, Venezuela and Costa Rica. In squads of 12, the competitors tested their nerves and shooting skills throughout a variety of defensive shooting challenges.
Costa Rica’s Gamboa competed in The Enhanced Service Pistol class. Gamboa finished 7th overall in his division, as well as taking a stunning 6th in the master class. But, the icing on the cake is that Gamboa won the International High title against all other international competitors, which came from from Venezuela, Italy, Austria, Finland, and his own Costa Rica.
“IDPA is growing rapidly on the international level and are seeing more and more foreign shooters, like Miguel, traveling to the U.S. to compete. The High International title grows in importance each year as nations battle for bragging rights. It’s an honor to congratulate, on behalf of the entire IDPA membership, Miguel Gamboa and Team Costa Rica on their Carolina Cup victory,” said the executive director of IDPA.
