The Judiciary Investigative Police in Costa Rica (OIJ) are making progress on the case of the Italian businessman, Stefano Calandrelli, who went missing the evening of May 14.

Evidence indicates that Calandrelli, 51-years of age and co-owner of the Italian restaurant L’Incontro, was kidnapped; OIJ have detained 4 men and 1 woman in relation to this case yesterday evening in an operation carried out in San Joaquin de Flores, Heredia in an apartment where the police have reason to believe Calandrelli was initially held prisoner.

Calandrelli has not yet been found, but OIJ expects that with the evidence gathered and the suspects arrested they will be able to find the victim.

The businessman was married some time ago to Costa Rican television personality and sports journalist Adriana Duran, who with he has a son. Calandrelli was last seen at the Escazu Village shopping center where he has his restaurant, friends that were with him that evening and state he requested an Uber service, no one has seen him or heard from him since.

OIJ is investigating the possible relation between Calandrelli’s disappearance and the murder of another Italian businessman in Costa Rica, Vincenzo Constanzo, whose body was found in February 2017 at El Rodeo in Ciudad Colon.

Constanzo and Calandrelli used to be business partners but had gone their separate ways months before Constanzo was killed; the death of this last one was apparently related to the sale of land he owned in the Island of Cebaco located off the Pacific Coast of Panama.
