American physician, comedian and author Hunter Doherty, better known as Patch Adams, will visit Costa Rica once again next August 29th.

Doherty along with his team will make a presentation in the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Costa Rica starting at 4 p.m., with the purpose of organizing groups of volunteers that work in different countries spreading laugh and humor.

The doctor who brings Patch Adams the clown to life will be speaking about holistic health and the importance of love and laugh in the healing process.

Doherty founded the Gesundheit! Institute back in 1971, a non-profit health care model with the mission to “reframe and reclaim the concept of hospital”; “A model of holistic medical care based on the belief that the health of the individual cannot be separated from the health of the family, community, society and the word”.

The Patch Adams Organization raises funds to build this fantasy hospital.

This is not the first visit that Doherty visits the country, back in 2016 him and his team took part in a Festival in the community of La Carpio, a community that is home to many Nicaraguan migrants and a large number of Costa Ricans that live in poverty conditions. This year the “Somos la Carpio” Festival kicks off August 28 and carries on through September 2, so it is expected that Doherty also makes an appearance in this year’s event

In 1998 the film Patch Adams was released where actor Robin Williams played the role of Patch Adams.
