U.S. Sports Desk, Apr 24 (EFE).– Superstar point guard Stephen Curry made a game-tying shot from behind the arc with time winding down in regulation and finished with 40 points in the Golden State Warriors’ come-from-behind 125-119 overtime victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Warriors faced a seemingly insurmountable 20-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s game at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans and still trailed by 17 points with six minutes remaining.

But Golden State is capable of erasing leads in a hurry thanks to the sharpshooting of Klay Thompson and Curry, a leading NBA MVP candidate who scored 10 points over the final six minutes of regulation, including two 3-pointers with 12 seconds to go, and strong team defense.

On the Warriors’ final possession of the fourth quarter, Curry missed one attempt from 3-point range but connected on a second try with 2.8 seconds remaining after an offensive rebound.

The Pelicans fell behind early in the five-minute overtime period but rallied to pull within one at 119-118 before the Warriors sealed the victory with six late points and shut-down defense.

“We finally got composed,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters afterward. “We were in desperation mode and we started making some shots. But more importantly, we were able to make stops at the other end. That’s what got us back in the game.”

With the win, the top-seeded Warriors took a commanding 3-0 lead in that best-of-seven first-round Western Conference playoff series.

Game 4 will be played in New Orleans on Saturday night.

In other games Thursday night, the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers each took 3-0 leads in their first-round Eastern Conference series with wins over the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics, respectively.

The Cavaliers topped the Celtics 103-95, while the Bulls scored a back-and-forth 113-106 victory over the Bucks in double overtime. EFE
