If you have to travel through San José today, it might be better to take a detoured route.

Public sector unions have scheduled a protest march in the “center” of downtown San José. The group will move down avenida 2 and head towards the legislative assembly building.

The protesters will be voicing their disapproval of “Plan B”, the legislative change that has increased taxes on food items and other products. The other aspect of “Plan B” is in ill-favor, in its change to wage corruption policies.

The march, led by the Asociación de Profesores de Segunda Enseñanza, will likely be joined by a few other unions and groups. Some of the most likely are: the Sindicato de Profesionales en Ciencias Médicas de la Caja y Afines, the Comisión Nacional de Enlace, the Frente Interno de Trabajadores de la Caja, integrados por Unión de Empleados de la Caja y la Seguridad Social (Undeca), the Trabajadores de Japdeva, la Central General de Trabajadores, the Sindicato de Trabajadores Unidos the Magisterio de Acción and el Sindicato de Empleos de la Universidad de Costa Rica.

The director of the Transit Police, Diego Herrera stated that Transit and the Fueza Publica would plan and work in conjunction to minimize the effect that the procession will have on traffic. Herrera plans on diverting traffic away from the center of activity.
