A remarkably clear video purportedly showing an unidentified flying object (UFO) hovering in the sky in Costa Rica began making its rounds on social media over the weekend.

The video was uploaded to YouTube by at least two different users over the weekend.  The Costa Rica Star attempted to contact both uploaders Monday morning to establish when and where the video may have been shot, but did not receive an immediate response.

The video shows a diamond-shaped object that appears relatively large, along with a second smaller object that seems to stay in close vicinity to the larger one.

The video has been shared thousands of times on social media since being published from YouTube on Disclose.TV on Friday, a news hub “dedicated to unusual and unexplained phenomena,” though Disclose.TV also seems to have no background on the video.

Earlier this year, in February, a tourist captured images of another purported UFO over Costa Rica’s Irazu volcano, though the images were far less clear than what is shown in the video below.

 

Costa Rica’s history of UFO sightings 

The most recent sightings are far from the first in Costa Rica.

In August 2011, a series of strange lights in the night sky captured the attention of dozens of people in the San Jose neighborhood of Moravia. A video of the event was even broadcast on the nightly television news.

A number of UFOs have also been reported and photographed around the Arenal Volcano, in the northern part of the country.

Perhaps the country’s most famous UFO sighting occurred in 1971, when a professional team of aerial photographers, geographers, and topographers conducted a flyover of Lake Cote, also in northern Costa Rica, and captured an image of what appeared to be a large disc either emerging from the lake or hovering just slightly above it. Experts who analyzed the 1971 photograph say that neither the image nor the film had been in any way altered and was not the result of double exposure.
