The Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Rodolfo Méndez Mata, affirmed that this administration will continue working, as promised, in the elimination of several bottlenecks in the great metropolitan area; however, this means more traffic jams while the works are completed.

At the end of July, the government announced the beginning of the works in the roundabout known as “Rotonda de las Garantías Sociales” where a 6-lane underpass (3 in each direction) will be replacing the current roundabout.

Other works already planned will be affecting traffic in Guadalupe, San Pedro (Rotonda de la Bandera and Rotonda Betania), Tibas (Saprissa Bridge and intersection with Route 32) and La Uruca; Mata explained in an interview with Telenoticias that these works will be executed in 2019 all at the same time, which inevitably translates into more traffic congestion.

“This is the reason we are trying to accelerate the process to help improve collective public transportation systems, and we are working on paving alternate Municipal routes for users to have more options. Yes, this will generate more congestion, but the country must undergo these processes”, commented Minister Méndez.

In total, close to 150 kilometers of roads will be intervened next year.
